Project: Cottingham Culvert Trash Screen monitoring

East Riding of Yorkshire Council commissioned Hydro-Logic to install flood monitors in the Cottingham area of Humberside. Residents in this area had been dramatically affected by the floods of June 2007. Extremely intense rainfall combined with already saturated land resulted in localised flooding which was made worse by the effects of easily blocked 'trash screens' at numerous culvert locations.

Project: Flood and trash screen monitoring

Hydro-Logic was contracted by City of Edinburgh Council in 2010 to supply and install water level monitoring and flood warning systems at 10 key locations throughout the City. The sites were on open water courses and culverted stream running through the city suburbs where flooding has been a recurring problem over several years.

Client: Wychavon District Council

Project: Culvert trash screen blockage warning

Wychavon District Council commissioned Hydro-Logic to install a system to monitor rising flood levels on the Bengeworth Brook in the Evesham area. Residents had been particularly vulnerable to the effects of 'trash screen' blockages at a culvert location. Storm events similar to the 2007 summer floods had caused particular maintenance problems for the Engineering Team at Wychavon.

Case Study Applications and Turnkey Solutions

Isodaq Technology has supplied and installed numerous turnkey systems on major surface and groundwater monitoring projects in recent years. In most cases our own innovative technology lies at the heart of many of these systems and clients have approached us because of our unique combination of skills particularly in respect of the automatic capture and processing of hydrometric or flow gauge data.

Many of these have incorporated networks of Isodaq's low-cost telemetry logger systems as part of real-time applications for flood and pollution warning, and these have been supplied to many of the UK's Water Companies and Environmental Regulators and other public-sector organizations. Examples of some of the turnkey system applications supplied to major clients are given in the links below. These often combine the provision of engineering or software design, system supply and commissioning often with on-going maintenance services:

ADCPs and How They Work

An Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) measures and records water velocities over a range of depths. Isodaq Technology source ADCPs from Teledyne RD Instruments who designed and delivered the industry's first ADCP in 1982. It is now an essential flow and discharge measurement tool.
